We caught up with a few of our Dragon Boat volunteers who recently helped out at a local high school.
First year's Francisco Lopez, Manuel Guerra, Charlotte Cambriel, and second year Ann Xu took to Taipei XiShong High School 台北市西松高中 to engage and participate in activities with the international students.

The activity: Crepe cooking class. (only Charlotte knew how to cook crepes!)

The volunteers divided into groups of 8 kids and began whipping up the crepes. It was and engaging and fun as they got to interact and know the students as well as share about themselves.
Questions like
Where are from?
Why you choose Taiwan?
What are you studying?
And questions about the Dragon Boat team all came up.

Some Feedback from the volunteers:

"The experience was a [good] cultural exchange because we were able to see the differences in education between Taiwanese high schools and Honduran high schools. It was impressive. There were similarities - kids joking around, being curious, energetic, and positive, wanting to take pictures, wanting to make their best impression and participate in the activity. They all had a good time learning how to cook crepes. The kids were a bit shy at first which posed a challenge but many engaged still. There's always next time." - Francisco

Manuel's group was very lively as he used his humorous charm on them.

"The experience was very sweet remember how it was to be a teenager. All of the dreams and hopes you have about your life. It reminds you to make what your doing meaningful and to appreciate the opportunities around you. Seeing the kids be so positive about the future. As an adult you don't always do that. It refocuses your perspective from their positivity." -- Manuel

Our Dragon Boat captain Jim Lai organized activities at the school as the Dragon Boat team is looking for sponsors. The high school has heated, 8 lane Olympic pool that can accommodate two Dragon Boats for practice. They currently have other teams training there already.

The Dragon Boat competition is all about teamwork and accountability. All paddlers share the load to achieve the goal together. That is what the Dragon Boat team, and IMBA as a whole is attempting to accomplish with ourselves and surrounding community.

Overall, it was a successful pairing and great opportunity for the students, volunteers, and our Dragon Boat Team.
